What to Expect During Your Evaluation
- Underlying sensory sensitivies and registration decits
- Motor skill and coordination delays
- Social strengths and challenges
- Self-care decits (sleep, feeding, dressing, grooming, etc.)
- Current play limitations
- Underlying neurologic or behavioral differences that are impacting development and daily functioning
- Academic or visual decits
For children, this will include seated pen and paper assessments, participation in age-appropriate play tasks, and parental and child interviews. You can expect the exam to last approximately an 1.5 hours, with these sometimes requiring additional testing dates if regulation or attention is especially limited or challenging.
Our teenage or young adult clients can expect the same level of comprehensive care, though testing will focus more on vocational and work-related challenges, functional testing related to leisure and life skill performances, and can typically be completed within the hour.
At the conclusion of your exam, you will be scheduled to participate in a conference with your evaluating clinician. This visit typically occurs 2-3 weeks following your exam, so to allow creation of a formal written plan of care that frequently includes team collaboration with your vision or neurologic specialists. The conference will provide you one-on-one time with the therapist to review your results, discuss clinical recommendations, and to actively collaborate on an approach to your therapy that best meets your lifestyle, goals, and overall wellness.
